Men's Counseling and Therapy

Simply put, men have sometimes found it difficult to locate a therapy practice that is set up with men as a priority. Personally, I've seen quite a few counselor spaces emphasizing pink, lavender, and feminine flourishes where even I got the message that this was more of a woman's space.

Some issues look different in men. Certain methods tend to be more effective for male clients. I discovered early in my practice that a large portion of my clients were men, so I developed a special focus on working with men.

Men's counseling and therapy meets men where they are to promote positive change, in an office environment where men are intended to be. 

I've studied male-oriented concerns across two decades in the field, from graduate study in masculinity and spirituality to doctoral research on male body image. My PhD concentration in exercise and sport psychology appeals to some clients.

I can assist with so-called "men's issues" like masculinity and gender identity, sexual functioning, and male psychology. But therapy with men most often involves standard concerns like relationships, anxiety, stress, motivation, and career, with a particular awareness of how men can be helped.

Sit and relax in our comfortable office setting. The approach is nonjudgmental, so don't be concerned about what your therapist will think. Curse words are welcome, even helpful. Porn, infidelity, sexual performance anxiety, erectile dysfunction...I probably heard it all before. 

Most of my clients  are heterosexual but I have extensive experience seeing clients of gay, bi, and other identities. I sometimes help men who are trying to figure out their sexuality. I've seen many athletes, military guys, and fraternity men. I've also seen many clients beyond traditional expressions of masculinity, some of whom carry wounds from bullying, abuse, or social exclusion. I welcome all.
